Project preparation guide

A better brief makes comparison easier.

Use this checklist before requesting quotes. These are preparation tools, not a survey, technical specification or professional advice.

Describe the outcome

Separate essential work from optional improvements. Say which rooms or areas are involved, what must be retained, access limitations and when the property is occupied. Record unknowns rather than guessing.

Measure and photograph

Add indicative room dimensions, ceiling height and clear photos. Label measurements that have not been verified on site. Our free room planner can help organise these notes, but trades should confirm quantities before quoting.

Compare the same scope

Ask who supplies materials, removes waste, protects finishes and makes good afterwards. Check whether VAT is included, what is provisional, which permissions are excluded and how additional work is agreed. A lower headline price may cover less work.

Plan completion records

Agree what completion means and which certificates, manuals or warranties should be handed over. Keep change approvals and dated photographs in your private project workspace.
